CONTEST: MENTAL ILLNESS ART VIDEO CONTEST

If you've watched or listened to our "Stories of Hope," you'll know that art played a huge role in the recovery processes of the youth featured in the videos. Art helps us understand how we're feeling and gives us a way to express ourselves when words don't cut it. Art, although objective, can have an big impact on others as well; it allows us to connect with one another over shared feelings and gives us hope through interpretation. It's now your turn to share how you feel about mental health and mental illness.

We want you to create a 2D, 3D or 4D piece of art that expresses your thoughts/feelings/perceptions on the following phrase:

THIS IS MENTAL ILLNESS.

This prompt is broad on purpose. Mental illness can mean so many different things, but we want to know, from your perspective, what mental illness looks, feels, or sounds like.

How to enter:

1. Fill out our interest form by clicking HERE.

2. Using the prompt above, make a piece of 2D, 3D or 4D art:

2D: Artwork made on a flat surface. May include drawings, paintings or murals, prints, canvas, or mixed media.

3D: Art that is three dimensional -- this includes ceramics, sculptures or installations, glass, metal, etc.

4D: Art made with technology including videos, graphic design images, digital photography, etc.

3. Once your masterpiece is complete, admire it in all its glory!

4. Take a high-quality photo of your artwork.

5. Submit a high resolution .jpg or .png photo of your artwork to tbh.today@gmail.com.

The photo must be between 1000 and 2000 pixels and have a resolution of 300 dpi

Artwork should be photographed against a blank background (if your medium requires a background).

4D pieces can be uploaded to Youtube, Vimeo, or Google Drive -- only a link needs to be sent to the gmail.

CONTEST: 1917 ONE SHOT CHALLENGE

NBCUniversal and Idea's United have partnered to produce a video submission contest centered around creating a one shot film!

"filmmakers are challenged to submit a two-minute video filmed in one continuous shot, focused on the theme of delivering an urgent message."

The shorts don't have to be about war, or set during wartime. The genres are at the filmmakers' discretion. All entries must be no longer than two minutes in length and submitted by December 2, 2019.

Films are due by December 2, 2019.

CTE Month® 2019 and NASA HUNCH Video Challenge

About CTE Month and NASA HUNCH

ACTE and NASA HUNCH are excited to collaborate on this year’s student video challenge, 

celebrating career and technical education (CTE) and project-based learning programs. Empowering educators to deliver high-quality CTE programs that ensure students are positioned for career success, ACTE is host to the annual CTE Month awareness campaign held each February. HUNCH stands for High School Students United with NASA to Create Hardware and is looking to extend its message of empowering and inspiring students through project-based learning to CTE students across the nation. NASA HUNCH high schools offer students the opportunity to launch their careers through the participation in the design and fabrication of real world valued products for NASA.

About the Video Challenge

Purpose: Offer students the opportunity to showcase the application of CTE and project-based learning programs in high-demand 21st century career fields on earth as well as in space.

Goal: Inspire students by sparking their imagination and creativity as well as broadening their knowledge about STEM careers through the CTE Month and NASA HUNCH video challenge.

Video Challenge and Theme: Working Out of This World

• Feature an imaginative or real future career, product or service that could be used on the International Space Station, an asteroid, the Moon, Mars, remote exploration and/or in other future space missions
• Talk about essential skills the rising workforce will need to thrive in a space exploration project
• Showcase a future scenario in outer space that incorporates CTE and/or project-based learning

The contest is open to high school students in any CTE or project-based (hands-on) class or program, or NASA HUNCH school. Students may enter as individuals or as a group.
